Projects for 2026

The Cairn Project

IAG’s long-running fieldwork project to survey neolithic and bronze age cairns around Ingleborough, led by Yvonne Luke, will continue during 2026. Using tape and offset surveys, we aim to complete surveys on ring cairns near Feizor and Stackhouse and write up a detailed report. Surveys of other local cairnfields will continue in parallel with the ring cairn project.

Drone surveys

We are also hoping - in something of an experiment - to combine traditional survey of two more remote ring cairns with a 3D photographic model created by UAV (drone).

Landscape archaeology survey

A new project for 2026 is a landscape survey led by Dr David Johnson. It is planned that IAG members will have the opportunity to assist with a full-scale landscape archaeology survey on land in Langstrothdale. The survey may take around 10 field days to complete. Further details will be provided when available.

Craven Lime Works

IAG members will be involved in archaeological investigations at the former quarry and limeworks near Langcliffe, in support of a scheme by North Yorkshire Council.

Surveys, excavations and other practical activities are led by experienced archaeologists and researchers, and we aim at a high professional standard in the field and in our written reports.

Since its formation in 1996, IAG has carried out a wide range of excavations, surveys and archival research projects spanning eras from the Mesolithic through the medieval to the 19th century. You can read reports about these projects in the Publications section.
