Discoveries from a dig in Littondale - including the remains of a settlement dating back 2,000 years – were revealed at IAG's September talk.
Rebecca Wilson of AOC Archaeology explained how an excavation at Hesleden in autumn 2024 uncovered the well-preserved settlement.
This included a series of stonework boundaries, a stone cairn or mound, and a sunken circular building with a flagstone floor and thick limestone walls. Finds included a number of querns, mortars, grinding stones, pottery and animal bone.
Put a note in your diary for our next talk on 20 October - Iron Age Issues in Upper Wharfedale. It starts at 7.30pm at Ingleborough Community Centre. Non-members welcome. Watch this space for more information.
