15 December: Gauber Cow Pasture - a medieval farmstead site

Updated: 6 days ago

The remains of a farmstead dating back more than 1,000 years will be the focus of IAG's next talk, on Monday 15 December 2025.

Dr David Johnson, landscape archaeologist, author and honorary president of IAG, will discuss the discoveries at Gauber Cow Pasture near Ribblehead in his talk at Ingleborough Community Centre.

Excavation of the site in 2024, in partnership with IAG, formed the last chapter in Dr Johnson's long-running research programme into early medieval settlement around Ingleborough. The presentation will summarise the findings of the excavation and attempt to put it into a wider context.

The talk starts at 7.30pm and will be followed by tea, coffee and mince pies. Non-members welcome - £3 entry.

The outlines of the farmstead are revealed in the LiDAR image (credit Jamie Quartermaine).
