There's an exciting year ahead for IAG with a full programme of talks, visits, walks and activities in 2026 as the group celebrates its 30th anniversary year.
The programme kicks off in January with an online talk on the Thornborough Henges, and a visit to the mega-monument complex is planned for May. (The online talk is for members only and the zoom link will be sent by email.)
Talks return to Ingleton Community Centre in February with a visit from Sarah Whiteley, who will tell us about the work of the Yorkshire Dales National Park historic environment team.
In March we host a visit from archaeologist Jamie Quartermaine whose talk compares prehistoric landscapes in the Lake District and Wales. And in April, Tony Hunt will tell us about the revolution in aerial archaeology driven by drones. The photo below is one of Tony's fantastic images of the Sleights Pasture monument complex.
Summertime walks and visits - in addition to the Thornborough trip - include a visit and picnic at Thorns near Ribblehead, led by Dr David Johnson; a trip to Appleby; a walk to the summit of Ingleborough and a visit to Craven Museum to see the gold lunula and the stores.
In September, our monthly talks resume and cover topics as varied as field names; enclosures; ancient DNA and IAG's surveys of ring cairns, cairns and cairnfields.
All the talks (except January) take place at Ingleton Community Centre and are open to non-members (£3 entry). Visit the events page to find out more.
