A busy spring and summer lie ahead for IAG members with an exciting line-up of outings, visits and practical projects.
First in the pipeline is a boat trip on Lancaster Canal on Saturday 17 May. This follows on from the very interesting talk we had last year about the construction and development of the canal. Numbers are limited and places must be booked in advance. All members will receive an email with full details about how to book a place.
The next event is an overnight moon-watch (weather permitting of course!) on 11/12 June. The aim is to gather at the prehistoric monument near Ribblehead and watch the moon setting into Ingleborough - something that only happens every 18 years!
On 26 June we are heading back to Roman times with a visit to the Ribchester Museum, hosted by the curator, followed by lunch and then a walk along the nearby Roman road.
On 29 July there is an archaeology day trip to Swaledale when we will look at the fascinating prehistoric archaeology of the area - cairns, enclosures, large embankments and field systems.
Practical projects over the coming months are likely to involve continued survey work on prehistoric cairns in the Ingleborough area; a small-scale excavation at Raikes Road Burial Ground in Skipton; and archaeological investigations at Craven Lime Works at Langcliffe.
Full information about all these visits and projects will be sent by email to IAG members, with details of timings and if you need to book a place. You need to be an IAG member to join the trips (on some outings a member may bring a partner or friend) and practical projects are for hands-on members only. New members are always welcome! Find out more about joining IAG.
The autumn programme starts at Ingleborough Community Centre on 15 September with a talk about an archaeological dig in Littondale. Find more information about talks and outings; and practical projects.
